LPG e-KYC Deadline Extended to August 31 for Aadhaar Verification

· · 3 min read

Indian oil firms have extended the LPG e-KYC deadline to August 31, allowing consumers more time for Aadhaar-based verification. The extension follows a surge in demand ahead of the previous August 23 cutoff.

Millions of Indian households who missed the August 23 deadline for LPG e-KYC verification now have an extended window. Oil industry officials confirmed that the new deadline for Aadhaar-based biometric authentication for domestic LPG connections is August 31.

The decision to extend the deadline was prompted by an overwhelming rush of consumers to LPG distribution agencies, particularly in Hyderabad and other regions of Telangana, as the original cutoff date approached. This extension is expected to provide significant relief to families who were unable to complete the necessary verification process on time.

Why the Extension?

Major oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), have been urging consumers to complete their e-KYC to ensure continued receipt of LPG refills at subsidized domestic rates. A senior oil industry official stated, “The new deadline is August 31. Those who are yet to complete the e-KYC will receive a message mentioning the same.”

How to Complete LPG e-KYC

Consumers have two primary methods to complete their Aadhaar-based e-KYC:

  • Visiting an LPG Distributor: Customers can go to their local LPG distributor agency for in-person verification.
  • Online via Mobile Applications: For convenience, many consumers can complete the process using their respective oil marketing company’s mobile app, often involving Aadhaar-based face authentication.

Compliance and Future Supply

Official statistics indicate that India has approximately 32.97 crore active domestic LPG consumers. In Telangana alone, with about 1.26 crore consumers, nearly 82% had completed their e-KYC by August 25. The Telangana LPG Distributors Association president, Jagan Mohan Reddy, confirmed that OMC officials have communicated the extension to distributors.

An oil industry official reassured consumers that LPG refills would continue to be supplied even after the August 31 deadline. However, the frequency of supply for customers who remain non-compliant might be subject to further directives from the Petroleum Ministry. While no formal communication on potential restrictions has been issued, consumers are strongly advised to complete their e-KYC before the revised deadline to avoid any uncertainty or disruption in future LPG refill supplies.
