LPG, CNG, PNG Prices Stable July 13 Amid Rising US-Iran Tensions

· · 2 min read

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG rates remained stable on July 13, 2026, across major Indian cities. However, renewed US-Iran hostilities near the Strait of Hormuz are raising concerns about future energy supply and price volatility.

Indian consumers saw no change in the prices of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders, CNG, and piped natural gas (PNG) on July 13, 2026. These rates have held steady for over a month, offering a brief reprieve amidst global energy market uncertainties. In contrast, commercial 19-kg LPG cylinder prices were slightly reduced following a stabilization in supplies.

However, the stability in domestic fuel prices comes against a backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions. Fresh reports indicate renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran, particularly near the critical Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media reported explosions close to Qeshm and Sirik, marking the first direct strikes against Iran since late last month. The US military confirmed these actions were in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the strait.

Global Energy Market Concerns

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global energy shipments, and any disruption there quickly impacts international oil prices. Following the latest developments, oil prices surged sharply. Brent crude futures rose by $2.34 to $78.35 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude increased by $2.21 to $73.62 per barrel. This volatility fuels concerns about potential future hikes in LPG, CNG, and PNG rates.

Over the weekend, the cycle of strikes intensified, with Iran extending attacks on Qatar and the UAE, while the US launched further strikes on Iranian targets. Despite earlier peace agreements and ongoing talks, hostilities have resumed. Former US President Trump stated on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial traffic, refuting Iran's previous claims of closure. However, ship-tracking data showed only six vessels transited the strait on Sunday, the lowest in five weeks, indicating heightened caution among shipping operators.
