Fuel Prices Remain Largely Stable Across India
As of June 28, 2026, the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) largely holds steady for households and businesses nationwide. While domestic LPG cylinders saw a minor hike earlier this month, other fuel categories have maintained their rates for weeks.
Recent Price Adjustments
Domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinder prices were last adjusted on June 7, when they increased by ₹29. Commercial 19 kg LPG cylinder rates have remained unchanged since June 1. Consumers of PNG and CNG last experienced price revisions in May of this year, with rates holding firm since then.
Government Assurances Amidst Supply Dynamics
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has affirmed that 100% supply of domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG is being maintained across the country, with no reports of shortages at LPG distributorships. Furthermore, the ministry highlighted a significant increase in online bookings for LPG, now reaching 98%.
Global Factors and Crude Oil Market
The stability in domestic fuel prices comes despite ongoing geopolitical shifts, including the nearing resolution of the West Asia conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The US has also granted a 60-day waiver on sanctions for Iranian petroleum, petroleum products, and crude oil imports. Currently, Brent crude oil is trading around $71.99 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude stands at $69.23 per barrel, approximately 2% lower than Friday's prices.

Hormuz Strait and Subsidized Cylinder Changes
The partial resumption of oil cargo movement through the Strait of Hormuz has a significant impact on India, which sources approximately 40% of its crude oil and 90% of its LPG imports from West Asian nations like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Due to global energy supplies not fully resuming via this critical waterway, the government has adjusted the number of subsidized cylinders available under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from nine to four. This scheme provides free gas connections to millions of women in rural India.
Outlook for Consumers
While LPG remains a dominant cooking fuel, CNG and PNG are increasingly recognized as cost-effective and stable alternatives. Consumers are encouraged to monitor city-specific price updates and policy changes to effectively manage their household fuel expenses.
