India's summer travel landscape is undergoing a significant shift, with a notable surge in demand for mountain destinations over traditional plains. Digital travel platform Agoda reports a substantial increase in accommodation searches for high-altitude locations, particularly highlighting Leh, Kasol, and McLeod Ganj as the hottest summer picks.
This trend is largely fueled by travelers from major metropolitan cities, indicating a growing preference for outdoor, experience-led adventures rather than conventional summer retreats. The data points to a fundamental change in how Indian travelers make their vacation decisions, prioritizing immersive experiences and cooler climates.
Leh Sees Remarkable 143% Surge
Leh, the stunning Trans-Himalayan destination, has emerged as the standout performer, recording an impressive 143% increase in accommodation searches year-on-year. Known for its challenging high-altitude trekking routes, including Markha Valley and Lasermo La, Leh is attracting adventure seekers drawn to its dramatic landscapes.
Interest in Leh spans across the country, with New Delhi registering a 140% growth in searches, Mumbai a 158% jump, and Hyderabad seeing a 106% increase, underscoring its broad appeal.
Kasol: Parvati Valley's Favorite
Following Leh, Kasol experienced a significant 126% rise in searches from Indian travelers. This popular Parvati Valley destination offers access to renowned trekking trails such as Kheerganga and Tosh Valley. Delhi residents showed particularly strong interest, with searches climbing 129% year-on-year.
Chandigarh, benefiting from its geographical proximity and familiarity with Himachal's terrain, registered an even sharper 178% increase in searches for Kasol, reflecting its status as a regional favorite.
McLeod Ganj: Dhauladhar Range Beckons
McLeod Ganj and its picturesque surrounding areas are also witnessing heightened interest. Travelers are drawn to the trekking routes within the majestic Dhauladhar range, including Triund, Kareri Lake, and Indrahar Pass. The region serves as an ideal base for trekkers, combining accessibility with diverse and scenic natural beauty.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, commented on the trend: "The decisions of Indian travellers today are increasingly shaped by experiences and not just the destination itself. Destinations like Leh, Kasol and McLeod Ganj are emerging as strong choices because they offer both cooler climates and immersive outdoor experiences."
Agoda emphasizes its role in facilitating these adventurous getaways by providing a wide range of accommodation options, competitive deals, and a seamless booking experience for travelers eager to explore India's summer mountain picks.
