Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has announced that a biopic chronicling his life and the genesis of the IPL is currently in the scripting phase. Modi stated he has already dedicated hundreds of hours to interviews with scriptwriters, shaping the narrative of the ambitious project.
Ranveer Singh's Alleged Interest
According to Modi, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh personally approached him a few years ago, expressing a desire to portray him in a film. Modi recounted that Singh traveled to London specifically for a meeting at Modi's residence, where the potential role was discussed. Modi noted that he had never met the actor prior to this.
“Ranveer wants to play me,” Modi claimed, adding that Singh expressed that playing Lalit Modi as commissioner would be a dream role for him. While Modi praised Singh's acting prowess and would still prefer him for the part, he acknowledged that the actor's increasingly busy schedule could pose a challenge for the collaboration.
Beyond Cricket: The IPL Story
Modi emphasized that the upcoming film aims to delve deeper than just his personal journey. It seeks to explore the global rise of the IPL, presenting it as a story encompassing business, human elements, and international dimensions. The narrative is expected to cover Modi's extensive travels worldwide during the conceptualization and development of the tournament, which has since grown into one of the world's most valuable sports leagues.
Development Status
The project remains in the scripting stage, with Modi actively involved in providing insights and details to the writers. The scale of the IPL's international impact suggests the biopic is envisioned as a large-scale production, reflecting the widespread influence and complex origins of the league.
