Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced a ₹2,000 crore grant for Bengaluru road asphalting and free bus passes for students. These initiatives, part of his 'Youth Era' agenda, aim to boost education, employment, and community engagement.

Just hours after taking the oath as Karnataka's Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar has wasted no time in unveiling a series of significant welfare and youth-focused initiatives. These announcements, made after his inaugural Cabinet meeting, are seen as a clear signal of his administration's governance priorities, which he has termed the 'Youth Era'.

Key Initiatives Unveiled by CM Shivakumar

The new government's agenda emphasizes improving access to education, enhancing employment opportunities, and fostering community engagement across the state. Several major decisions were disclosed:

  • ₹2,000 Crore Grant for Bengaluru: A substantial grant of ₹2,000 crore has been allocated specifically for asphalting roads across Bengaluru, addressing critical infrastructure needs in the state capital.
  • Free Bus Passes for Students: Students from all levels, from school to postgraduate courses, will now receive free bus passes. This facility will be valid on non-luxury government-run buses throughout Karnataka, aiming to ease the financial burden on families and promote educational access.
  • State-Backed Private Employment Exchange: To tackle unemployment, a dedicated private employment exchange will be established. This platform is designed to connect job seekers with potential employers and will also focus on skill development and career guidance. Detailed guidelines for its operation are anticipated within a month.
  • 10,000 New Youth Clubs: The administration plans to set up 10,000 youth clubs across Karnataka. These clubs will serve as hubs for promoting sports, cultural activities, leadership training, and broader community participation among young people. Financial assistance will be provided to support their ongoing functioning.
  • Fast-Track Government Job Recruitment: The Shivakumar government has pledged to expedite the recruitment process for approximately 56,000 government vacancies. A comprehensive recruitment calendar, detailing department-wise hiring schedules, is expected to be released shortly.
  • Relief for Houseowners: A one-time measure has been announced to address long-standing issues concerning Occupancy Certificates (OC) and Completion Certificates (CC). Homeowners who applied before the end of the previous month and whose properties have deviations of up to 20 percent in plots measuring up to 2,500 square feet are expected to receive relief under the proposed framework.

These initial actions highlight the new government's commitment to delivering on its promises and setting a progressive tone for its tenure in Karnataka.
