Kolkata-based Jupiter Wagons Limited announced on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, that it has secured a substantial order valued at over Rs 97.66 crore from GATX India Private Limited. The agreement is for the manufacture and supply of BFNS22.9 rakes, marking a significant development for the mobility solutions provider.
Despite the positive news, shares of Jupiter Wagons experienced a relatively flat trading session. The stock was recorded at Rs 243.20, reflecting a marginal decline of 0.67 percent from its previous closing price of Rs 244.85.
Expanding Presence in India's Rail Ecosystem
The order, formalized through a Wagon Purchase Agreement, solidifies Jupiter Wagons' growing footprint within India's private wagon leasing ecosystem. GATX India is a subsidiary of the US-based GATX Corporation, a global leader in railcar leasing.
This strategic deal is also aligned with the Indian Railways' Wagon Leasing Scheme, which permits private entities like GATX to lease and operate rolling stock on the expansive Indian Railways network. Jupiter Wagons stated that the agreement further enhances its partnerships with international wagon leasing players operating in the country.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, commented on the development, stating, "This agreement with GATX India further strengthens our position in India's private wagon leasing landscape and reflects the confidence global players continue to place in Jupiter Wagons' engineering and delivery capabilities."
Lohia also highlighted the increasing demand for specialized wagons like the BFNS22.9 as leasing companies expand their operations on the Indian Railways network. He reiterated Jupiter Wagons' commitment to supporting the sector through strong execution, quality systems, and enduring partnerships.
