JSW Energy, a prominent player in India's power sector, has reported a robust financial performance for the second quarter ending September 30, 2026. The company saw its net profit surge by nearly 50% year-on-year, reaching ₹1,056 crore, up from ₹705 crore in the same period last year. This significant growth was accompanied by a 23% increase in revenue from operations, which stood at ₹6,368 crore, compared to ₹5,177 crore previously.
Strong Financial Growth Amidst Capacity Expansion
The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also demonstrated healthy growth, rising 20.7% year-on-year to ₹3,617 crore in Q2 FY27, from ₹2,996 crore in Q2 FY26. However, EBITDA margins experienced a slight contraction of 110 basis points, settling at 56.8% for the reported quarter.
These positive results coincide with JSW Energy's ongoing expansion efforts. As of October 5, 2027, the company's total installed capacity reached 15,147 MW. A notable acquisition included the full operation of the 300 MW Maruti thermal plant on August 6, 2026, for ₹1,410 crore. Furthermore, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has sanctioned a scheme of arrangement with GE Power India, following approvals from shareholders and creditors.
Board Approves ₹5,000 Crore NCD Issuance
In a strategic move to bolster its long-term funding, JSW Energy's board of directors has approved the issuance of rated and listed non-convertible debentures (NCDs) amounting to up to ₹5,000 crore. These funds will be raised on a private placement basis, in one or more tranches, with the Finance Committee authorized to oversee all related matters.
Stock Market Reaction
Following the announcement of its strong quarterly earnings, shares of JSW Energy experienced a sharp rebound during Wednesday's trading session. The stock surged more than 4% from its day's low of ₹463, ultimately settling at ₹482.50, nearly 3% higher than its previous close. This positive investor sentiment pushed the company's total market capitalization to ₹88,500 crore.
"The company board also approved raising of long term funds up to Rs 5,000 crores through, inter-alia, the issuance of rated and listed non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis, in one or more tranches and authorised the Finance Committee to decide on all matters relating to the issuance of the debentures, from time to time," the company stated in its exchange filing.
