Major brokerage firms Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL), Elara Securities, and Nomura have all initiated coverage on Jio Platforms Ltd. with 'Buy' ratings, forecasting a significant 20-22% potential upside for the company's shares. These positive outlooks come ahead of Jio's anticipated listing, with analysts highlighting strong growth prospects in digital services and an improving financial position.
Analyst Targets and Upside Potential
MOFSL has set a target price of Rs 1,350 for Jio Platforms, joining Nomura and Elara Securities in their optimistic assessments. Nomura's target stands at Rs 1,340, implying a 20% upside from its IPO price of Rs 1,119. MOFSL's analysis suggests a compelling risk-reward scenario, with a bull-case target price of Rs 1,690, while a bear-case scenario could see the stock at Rs 1,035.
Key Drivers and Financial Projections
Analysts across the board point to several factors underpinning their bullish views. MOFSL emphasized that Jio Platforms is a category creator in the market, not just a leader. The brokerage highlighted the sensitivity of Jio's earnings and valuation to wireless Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) growth. For every Rs 10 per month change in wireless ARPU, Jio's consolidated Ebitda is projected to change by Rs 3,800-3,900 crore, potentially altering its target price by Rs 58 per share, or 4%.
Nomura's assessment suggests that Jio's heavy 5G investment cycle is largely complete, anticipating a significant reduction in capital expenditure from 35% of revenue in FY25 to 23% in FY26. This shift is expected to free up substantial cash flow. Nomura also projects a rapidly improving balance sheet, with net debt/equity (including deferred payment obligations) falling from 0.56x in FY24 to 0.37x in FY26, and anticipates the company to become net debt-free by FY29.
Elara Securities forecasts a doubling of digital services revenue and a tripling of Ebitda for Jio Platforms by FY30. Mobility services are expected to be the primary driver of both revenue growth and profitability in the coming years.
Potential Risks to Consider
Despite the optimistic projections, MOFSL also outlined potential downside risks. These include further delays in implementing tariff hikes, increased competitive intensity within the telecom sector, an acceleration in capital expenditure, and a weaker-than-expected ramp-up in the digital platform business. These factors could potentially impact earnings and valuations.
