The mega Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Jio Platforms is set to open for subscription from October 21 to October 23, 2026. This substantial Rs 30,200 crore issue, projected to be India's largest-ever IPO, features a dedicated reservation of Rs 3,000 crore for eligible Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) shareholders and Jio employees.
Understanding the Shareholder Quota
Out of the total reservation, Rs 2,500 crore has been specifically earmarked for eligible RIL shareholders. Unlike the Rs 500 crore employee quota, which offers a discount of Rs 54 per share, RIL shareholders participating in this reserved category will not receive any discount. The price band for the IPO is fixed between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119 per share, with a lot size of 12 equity shares.
Who Qualifies as an Eligible RIL Shareholder?
To be considered eligible for the Jio Platforms IPO shareholder quota, investors needed to hold at least one RIL share in their demat account as of October 14, 2026. This date served as the cut-off, meaning October 13, 2026, was the last day to purchase RIL shares to qualify, considering the T+1 settlement cycle. Additionally, only individual investors or Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) are eligible for this category. It's crucial to note that only Reliance Industries shares count towards eligibility; holdings in Jio Financial Services do not qualify.
Application Rules and Important Considerations
- Bidding Limit: Eligible shareholders must adhere to a maximum bidding limit of Rs 2 lakh per application under the shareholder category.
- PAN Association: Applications must be made using the same Permanent Account Number (PAN) linked to the demat account holding the RIL shares.
- Single Bid: Investors should place only one bid per category to avoid potential rejections.
- No Guarantee: Experts caution that due to anticipated heavy oversubscription, allotment is not guaranteed even for eligible shareholders.
Trivesh D, COO at Tradejini, emphasized, "The key is to understand the rules for each category rather than assume multiple applications will automatically improve allotment chances."
Grey Market Premium (GMP) Insights
Ahead of its public offering, Jio Platforms has been trading with a strong grey market premium (GMP) of approximately Rs 215–220 per share. This unofficial indicator suggests a potential listing gain of 19–20 per cent over the upper end of the price band. While the GMP has seen an increase from around Rs 145 earlier in the month, it is important to remember that GMP is not a guarantee of listing performance.
