Allotments for Jio Platforms' landmark Rs 30,213 crore initial public offering (IPO) have been finalized, with market watchers keenly observing unofficial grey-market premiums (GMP) ahead of its anticipated listing on October 28, 2026. The digital and telecommunications giant, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has seen its GMP stabilize at approximately 22% for the past ten days, fueling expectations among allottees.
The sustained premium follows an overwhelming response across all investor categories. The IPO garnered bids exceeding Rs 4.9 lakh crore from nearly 1.4 crore applications, achieving an oversubscription of 22 times. Notably, the offering was fully covered within 100 minutes of its opening last week, despite a broader downturn in Indian equities.
Expert Insights on Listing Gains and Long-Term Potential
Mahesh M Ojh, Vice President – Research at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, highlighted Jio's formidable competitive edge. According to Ojh, Jio's fully proprietary, in-house technology stack, supported by 7,220 patent applications, eliminates third-party vendor fees, contributing to an industry-leading EBITDA margin of 51.91 percent.
“While regulatory shifts and next-generation capital requirements remain standard industry risks, Jio's market dominance creates an incredibly strong margin of safety,” Ojh stated. He suggested that the expected 20-22 percent listing gain presents an excellent immediate opportunity for short-term traders. For long-term investors, Ojh emphasized the firm's robust compounding potential, which he believes justifies a definitive buy-and-hold strategy for wealth creation.
Jio's Market Position and Future Outlook
The Jio Platforms IPO has defied the typical trend of grey-market premiums softening post-closure, maintaining its strong unofficial valuation. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) subscribed for 71 times their reserved portion, while wealthy investors covered their allocation 14 times. The retail portion also saw significant interest, being subscribed 2.7 times.
Should the grey-market trend persist through listing day, Jio Platforms is poised to become India’s second-most valuable company, trailing only its parent, Reliance Industries Ltd., and surpassing Bharti Airtel Ltd. The impressive subscription figures, coupled with the steady unofficial premium, have collectively elevated expectations for a robust market debut.
