IndiGo Stretch Upgrades: Priority Baggage, Enhanced Meals for Business Class Flyers

· · 2 min read

IndiGo has significantly upgraded its 'Stretch' business class offering, introducing priority baggage handling and a revised onboard meal service. These enhancements aim to attract more business and leisure travelers while expanding the product across domestic and international routes.

IndiGo has rolled out substantial improvements to its premium 'Stretch' business class, focusing on an elevated travel experience through priority baggage and a refined culinary offering. These changes come as the airline seeks to bolster demand and compete more effectively with rivals like Air India and international carriers.

Priority Baggage and Enhanced Dining Experience

Effective May 1, 'Stretch' class passengers now benefit from priority baggage handling. Bags are tagged at the origin and are among the first to be delivered on the carousel at the destination, streamlining the arrival process.

The onboard meal service in the 'Stretch' cabin, particularly on Airbus A321 aircraft, has been significantly enhanced. Passengers will now enjoy a premium tray service featuring fine chinaware and steel cutlery. On domestic sectors, the menu offers a thoughtfully curated, time-of-day based rotating selection. For regional international routes, the airline provides ready-to-eat hot meals.

Expanding Reach and Aircraft Capabilities

IndiGo initially launched its 'Stretch' product on the Delhi-Mumbai route in November 2024, utilizing a dual-class Airbus A321 aircraft. This offering provides passengers with wider seats, increased legroom, and complimentary meals.

The airline has since expanded 'Stretch' to numerous domestic and international services, including new routes like Chennai-Singapore and Delhi-Pune, with Bengaluru-Mauritius slated for a July launch. While Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft operating on domestic and short-haul international routes typically lack ovens, the A321XLRs and leased Boeing 787 planes (flying to destinations like Athens, Istanbul, Amsterdam, London, and Manchester) are equipped with them, allowing for hot meal service on those longer routes.

Ameya Joshi, founder of aviation blog Network Thoughts, observed, “The initial focus was to introduce the Stretch service on metro-to-metro routes. However, it appears that demand on domestic routes was slow and the service was launched on popular international routes such as Bangkok and Dubai. IndiGo carries a lot of international traffic coming from Europe and the US. Introducing Stretch service on routes like Delhi-Pune thus helps it offer consistent service to its customers.”

These latest upgrades are part of IndiGo's broader strategy to enhance its premium offering and cater to a growing segment of travelers seeking a more comfortable and efficient journey.
