Budget airline IndiGo has unveiled a new 'IndiGo Lite' fare, designed specifically for passengers who prefer to travel with only cabin baggage. This entry-level option allows customers to pay solely for the services they intend to use, streamlining the travel experience for light packers.
The new fare will be available for booking starting July 1, 2026, with travel commencing from July 15, 2026. Passengers can access this option through IndiGo's official website, mobile application, and customer contact centers.
Flexible Travel for Domestic and International Routes
The IndiGo Lite fare applies to all domestic and international non-stop flights. It supports various booking types, including one-way, round-trip, and multi-city itineraries, and is available for both adult and child passengers. Key inclusions with this fare are an auto-assigned seat at no additional cost and a standard cabin bag allowance of up to 7 kilograms.
While the Lite fare focuses on essential services, passengers retain the flexibility to customize their journey. Add-ons such as checked-in baggage, preferred seat selection, in-flight meals, and priority services like 'Fast Forward' can be purchased separately. These additional services can be added up to one hour before the scheduled departure, either online via the IndiGo website or directly at the airport.
Responding to Evolving Passenger Needs
Aloke Singh, IndiGo's Chief Strategy Officer, commented on the new offering, stating, "IndiGo Lite is specifically designed for customers who travel light and prefer to pay only for the services they actually use, instead of bundling in features they may not need." He emphasized that this move reflects the airline's commitment to refining its product lineup in response to changing passenger expectations and travel habits.
Singh further explained that the introduction of IndiGo Lite is part of a broader strategy to build a stronger, more practical product portfolio that effectively caters to diverse traveler segments. The airline aims to quickly adapt to market shifts while ensuring air travel remains accessible and affordable for a wider customer base.
Loyalty Benefits Maintained
Importantly, passengers opting for the IndiGo Lite fare will continue to earn and redeem BlueChip points, ensuring that the airline's loyalty program remains accessible across all fare categories. This new product enhances IndiGo's existing "6E ways to fly" portfolio, which already includes options like Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo Upfront, IndiGo Stretch, and Stretch+.
