India's Tier-2 Cities Drive Home Interior Spending to ₹3.9 Lakh Average

· · 2 min read

Households in India's Tier-2 cities are significantly boosting the home interiors market, spending an average of ₹3.9 lakh per home in 2025. This surge, nearly 74% of Tier-1 city levels, reflects growing aspirations and design awareness across emerging urban centers.

India's home interiors market is experiencing rapid expansion, largely propelled by a significant increase in spending from households in Tier-2 cities. A Deloitte report from September 2026 reveals that homeowners in these emerging urban centers allocated an average of ₹3.9 lakh per home on interiors in 2025. This figure represents approximately 74% of the spending observed in Tier-1 metropolitan areas, highlighting a narrowing consumption gap.

Aspirations Fueling Design Investments

The surge in interior spending in Tier-2 cities is attributed to evolving consumption patterns, where rising aspirations, increased residential development, and greater exposure to contemporary design trends are influencing homeowners. Interiors are no longer viewed merely as a one-time expense but as a strategic investment in comfort, aesthetics, functionality, and lifestyle. Deloitte estimates that consumers are now dedicating about 10-15% of their home's value to interior enhancements.

The report also noted a remarkable 300% year-on-year increase in luxury décor shopping in 2025 compared to 2024, underscoring the growing importance of visual appeal in home-related expenditures. This growth rate in the Tier-2 interiors market is almost double that of Tier-1 markets, driven by strong demand for modular and design-led home solutions.

Shifting Purchase Behaviors and Market Growth

Analysis of purchasing behavior indicates a notable shift towards specific categories. In 2025, storage solutions, kitchen utilities, organizers, and lighting recorded twice the transaction intensity compared to traditional furniture. Furthermore, cross-category purchases, such as combinations of wall art with wall accents or various modular products, saw a 62% increase, reflecting a holistic approach to home design.

Tier-2 consumers are actively seeking modern amenities like modular kitchens, custom-built furniture, enhanced lighting systems, improved storage options, and comprehensive design-focused solutions. This trend is a clear indicator that interior spending in these markets has moved beyond basic functional upgrades.

India's Home Sector Poised for Significant Expansion

Looking at the broader economic landscape, India's home and household sector is projected to expand 1.6 times over the next five years, reaching an estimated $260 billion by 2030. Within this, the furniture and furnishings segment alone is expected to grow from $39 billion in 2025 to $67 billion by 2030. Similarly, the interior services market is forecasted to double, from $4 billion to $8 billion, solidifying the importance of professional design and fitting services in the country's burgeoning real estate landscape.
