Expert Insights on Market Stability and Opportunities
VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, noted that despite a weakening chip trade and sharp corrections in other Asian markets like South Korea, India's market appears relatively stable and attractive from a valuation standpoint. He highlighted that Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) are not engaging in significant selling and are occasionally turning into buyers. Vijayakumar suggested that market dips could present valuable buying opportunities for fundamentally sound stocks, predicting a continued outperformance of the broader market in the near term.
Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, offered a technical perspective, stating that the benchmark indices are forming indecisive candlestick patterns, indicating potential movement in either direction. Chouhan emphasized that a meaningful breakout would only be confirmed if the Nifty surpasses 24,500 (or Sensex 78,700) or drops below 24,000 (or Sensex 76,800) on a closing basis. Until then, he anticipates a stock-specific market with limited index movement. His recommended strategy remains to reduce weak long positions in the 24,350–24,450 (Sensex 78,300–78,600) zone, while selectively accumulating quality stocks on declines.
In the preceding session, the Sensex had closed down by 238.41 points (0.31%) at 77,470.11, and the Nifty 50 index fell 50.80 points (0.21%) to end at 24,187.70.
