Ritesh's innovative approach, captured in a video that quickly went viral across social media, highlights a practical 'desi innovation' for combating extreme heat without relying on expensive air conditioning. Standing barefoot on his roof at 4:15 PM, he showcased how the treated surface remained barely warm, a stark contrast to the scorching ambient air.

The Simple Process and Materials

The materials for this cooling hack are readily available and inexpensive. Ritesh utilized:

  • 20 kg of lump lime (chuna), costing around ₹350.
  • 5 kg of Fevicol DDL binder.
  • 500 grams of Universal Repair Polymer, priced at approximately ₹200.

The application process is straightforward: the lump lime is soaked in about 50 liters of water overnight to cool. The following day, the binder and waterproofing compound are stirred into the cooled lime mixture. This resultant mix is then applied directly to the roof surface. Ritesh recommends at least one coat, with a second application if material permits, to cover a 1,000-square-foot area.
