Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has reported a significant increase in demand for its high-end Range Rover SV and Range Rover Sport SV models, a direct result of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The trade pact has allowed JLR to implement substantial price reductions, making these luxury vehicles more accessible to Indian consumers.
During the June quarter, JLR India repriced its flagship Range Rover SV, bringing its ex-showroom cost down from ₹4.25 crore to ₹3.5 crore, a remarkable reduction of up to ₹75 lakh. Similarly, the Range Rover Sport SV saw its price adjusted from ₹2.75 crore to ₹2.35 crore ex-showroom, further stimulating buyer interest.
Rajan Amba, Managing Director, JLR India, commented on the positive impact of the FTA. "We welcome the FTA as a key moment for luxury automotive in India. It allows us to bring more of our curated SV products, exclusive Range Rover special editions, and bespoke creations to our consumers, tailored to their aspirations," Amba stated, highlighting the strategic advantage the agreement provides for expanding their premium offerings.
This surge in demand contributed to JLR India's strongest first-quarter retail sales performance on record. In Q1 FY27, the company retailed 1,665 units, marking an 11% year-on-year increase. Wholesales for the same period also saw healthy growth, reaching 1,694 units, up 4% compared to the previous year.
The Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender models collectively accounted for over 85% of total retail sales in Q1 FY27, underscoring their strong position in India's luxury SUV segment. The Defender, in particular, maintained its status as the company’s top-selling model, demonstrating continued robust appetite for its 'tough luxury' proposition.
Looking ahead, Amba expressed optimism for sustained growth. "With a strong product pipeline ahead, we are well-placed to sustain this momentum in FY27," he affirmed, indicating a positive outlook for JLR India's performance throughout the fiscal year.
