IIM Bangalore, Mumbai, Lucknow Open UG Admissions to Class 12 Students via JEE

· · 2 min read

Top Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), including Bangalore, Mumbai, and Lucknow, now offer direct undergraduate admissions to Class 12 students. These new programs, blending business and technology, utilize JEE scores for entry, bypassing the traditional MBA wait.

In a significant shift for higher education in India, several premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have opened their doors to Class 12 students, offering direct admission to innovative undergraduate programs. This move, which leverages Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) scores, bypasses the traditional requirement of a postgraduate degree for entry into these prestigious institutions.

The new programs are designed to integrate business acumen with cutting-edge technology, addressing the evolving demands of the modern job market. Fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, digital entrepreneurship, and analytics are central to these new offerings.

IIMs Leading the Undergraduate Charge

A growing number of IIMs are now participating in this initiative, each with distinct program focuses and admission pathways:

  • IIM Mumbai: Offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Digital Science and Business Management. Admission is exclusively through JEE Main Paper 1 scores, followed by a Personal Interview which contributes 30% to the final merit list. The inaugural batch is limited to 70 students.
  • IIM Bangalore: Provides a three-year online Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship. Applicants can choose one of three entry routes: JEE Main, CUET, or the institute's own entrance examination.
  • IIM Sambalpur: Uses JEE Main scores for shortlisting candidates for its BS in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Successful candidates then undergo a Personal Interview. An age limit of 20 years applies, with standard relaxations for reserved categories.
  • IIM Kozhikode: For its Bachelor of Management Studies, a JEE Main percentile of 80 or higher can waive the institute's internal aptitude test, though other selection criteria remain.
  • IIM Lucknow: Launched its BS in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics in 2026. This is notable as the only IIM undergraduate program currently accepting JEE Advanced scores. The age ceiling is 21 years, with a 5% mark relaxation for SC/ST applicants.

Driving the Educational Transformation

This strategic pivot towards undergraduate education is largely influenced by the National Education Policy 2020, which advocates for interdisciplinary studies. Management schools are responding to a job market that increasingly values professionals with foundational knowledge in both technology and business, rather than those who specialize in one and then adapt to the other.

For aspiring students completing Class 12, this represents a significant change. An IIM education, once a distant goal requiring years of prior study, is now directly accessible to those with strong academic performance, particularly in the JEE examinations.
