Shares of state-owned IFCI Ltd and The New India Assurance Company Ltd (NIACL) experienced strong buying interest in Wednesday's trading session, with both stocks gaining sharply. The rally is primarily driven by investor focus on their respective exposures to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the buzz surrounding its proposed initial public offering (IPO).
IFCI and NIACL See Significant Gains
IFCI shares surged an impressive 13.92 percent, hitting a 52-week high of Rs 99.45. The stock was last trading 11.40 percent higher at Rs 97.25, extending its six-month gains to 72.34 percent. Meanwhile, NIACL shares climbed 8.29 percent, touching a day's high of Rs 201.25, and were last quoted 6.70 percent higher at Rs 198.30. This pushed NIACL's six-month returns to 39.16 percent.
NSE IPO Buzz Fuels Investor Interest
Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, noted that the upward movement in both stocks is directly linked to the proposed NSE IPO and the potential for significant value unlocking from their holdings in the exchange. The NSE has already filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP), structuring the IPO as an offer for sale, which makes the valuation of its existing shareholders a critical trigger for these stocks.
NIACL holds a direct 1.42 percent stake in the NSE. IFCI, on the other hand, has an indirect exposure through its 52 percent holding in Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd (SHCIL), which itself owns approximately 4.4 percent in the NSE. This substantial exposure has prompted the market to revalue both counters as investors anticipate a significant boost from the NSE listing.
Analyst Outlook and Investment Advice
Singh emphasized that the NSE IPO will remain a crucial factor for both IFCI and NIACL as the listing process progresses. However, he also cautioned that the sharp rally could lead to increased volatility and profit booking. He advises investors already holding these stocks to continue to do so, but suggests that fresh positions should ideally be considered on market dips rather than chasing the current sharp rallies. Any further advancements towards the NSE listing are expected to maintain the positive momentum.
Technical Views for IFCI and NIACL
According to AR Ramachandran, a Sebi-registered research analyst at Tips2trades, IFCI's stock is currently “bullish and overbought” on daily charts, with its next resistance level at Rs 98.6. Ramachandran recommends that investors consider booking profits, noting that a daily close below the support level of Rs 88.8 could trigger a fall towards Rs 76.9 in the near term.
For NIACL, Ramachandran stated that the stock remains bullish on daily charts, identifying Rs 182.4 as a key support level. He added that a daily close above the resistance of Rs 200 could pave the way for an upside target of Rs 218 in the near term.
