A road near the US Consulate in Hyderabad has been officially renamed 'Donald Trump Avenue' as part of Freedom 250 celebrations. Former US President Trump thanked India, calling it an "unprecedented honour" and the first such tribute to a US President.

Hyderabad's New 'Donald Trump Avenue' Unveiled

A significant road in Hyderabad, located near the US Consulate in the city's Financial District at Nanakramguda, has been officially renamed 'Donald Trump Avenue.' The renaming is part of the ongoing Freedom 250 celebrations, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence. This initiative by the Telangana government has drawn thanks from former US President Donald Trump, who hailed it as an "unprecedented honour."

Trump shared photographs and a video of the unveiling ceremony on his Truth Social platform, noting, "The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India — The first U.S. President to ever be honored in this way. Thank you! President DONALD J. TRUMP." The images depicted Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor at the plaque unveiling, highlighting the high-profile nature of the event.

Celebrating a Strong India-US Partnership

The commemorative plaque was unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, US Ambassador Sergio Gor, and US Consul General Laura Williams. The ceremony was attended by various diplomats, senior government officials, and industry representatives, underscoring the strategic importance of the gesture.

According to Telangana government officials, the renaming aims to celebrate the deepening strategic, economic, and investment partnership between India and the United States. It also serves to establish globally recognized landmarks within Hyderabad, reflecting the city's growing international prominence as a hub for technology and business, hosting Indian campuses of major American tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Gor emphasized that Hyderabad exemplifies the rapid expansion of India-US cooperation across diverse sectors, from information technology to aerospace and defence. He characterized the bilateral relationship as one built on mutual respect and acknowledged the robust partnership fostered during Trump's presidency.

A Vision for Future Ties

The decision to rename the road was initially announced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in December 2025. At that time, Reddy articulated that the initiative was intended to honour the United States while acknowledging Hyderabad's emergence as a global centre for technology, defence manufacturing, and global capability centres.

This renaming comes weeks after former President Trump met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. During their discussions, the leaders addressed critical issues such as trade negotiations, tariffs, and broader strategic cooperation. Following the meeting, Trump publicly praised Modi as a "calm, cool and a total killer" and a "tough" negotiator, expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of India-US ties through deeper engagement in trade, investment, and security.
