Hinduja Group Commits ₹2,500 Crore to Tamil Nadu's Green Mobility & Renewables

· · 2 min read

The Hinduja Group has pledged ₹2,500 crore for significant investments in Tamil Nadu's clean mobility and renewable energy sectors. This commitment includes funding for electric buses, solar and wind projects, and battery charging infrastructure across the state.

The Hinduja Group announced a substantial investment of ₹2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu, focusing on expanding its presence in the state's clean mobility and renewable energy sectors. The conglomerate signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government, outlining plans that span electric mobility, renewable energy generation, automotive, and financial services.

Boosting Renewable Energy Capacity

A key component of this investment is the development of over 200 MW of renewable energy projects by Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL). These initiatives will encompass solar, wind, and advanced battery storage technologies. The group is actively seeking land and connectivity support in strategic locations such as Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, and Coimbatore to facilitate these projects.

Expanding Electric Mobility Solutions

In the electric mobility sphere, OHM Global Mobility Limited, a Hinduja Group entity, is set to operationalize electric buses for public transport and broaden its range of mobility solutions. The overarching investment strategy also covers the expansion of battery charging infrastructure and the integration of digital mobility solutions, reinforcing Tamil Nadu's position in India's energy transition.

Mr. Ashok Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India), expressed strong confidence in the state's potential. “Our ₹2,500 crore commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth,” he stated. He further noted, “With its strong industrial base, talent and renewable energy potential, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to lead India's energy and mobility transition.”

Building on Existing Commitments

This latest commitment follows a previous ₹7,500 crore MoU signed by Hinduja Group UK with the Tamil Nadu government in September 2025, which focused on the state's Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem, including battery manufacturing and charging infrastructure. Additionally, in March 2026, Ashok Leyland, another Hinduja Group company, broke ground on a ₹500 crore greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility near Chennai. The Hinduja Group already maintains a significant presence in Tamil Nadu through various businesses, including Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, and Hinduja Leyland Finance.
