The Haryana government has given its nod to a significant infrastructure push, approving five major bypass and ring road projects with an estimated investment of approximately ₹9,700 crore. These initiatives, spanning Hisar, Kurukshetra, Narnaul, Jind, and the Sohna-Palwal corridor, are designed to significantly reduce traffic congestion in urban centers and improve overall road connectivity throughout the state.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini approved these proposals as part of a broader strategy to develop comprehensive ring roads and national highway links around cities and towns with populations exceeding one lakh residents.
Key Project Details
The approved projects include critical upgrades and new constructions aimed at streamlining traffic flow and enhancing regional access:
- Hisar Bypass: This new link will connect Hisar-Rajgarh Road (NH-52) with Hisar-Delhi Road and Hisar-Kaithal Road. It is expected to divert through-traffic away from Hisar city, improving movement between key national highways.
- Kurukshetra Bypass: The Kurukshetra-Ladwa Bypass has advanced to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage, with construction anticipated to commence soon.
- Narnaul City Bypass: An approximately 11 km long bypass will connect with NH-148B, offering an alternative route for vehicles traversing Narnaul city.
- Jind Bypass and Outer Ring Road: Jind will benefit from a new four-lane bypass on NH-352, complemented by an outer ring road, enhancing connectivity around the city and reducing pressure on existing routes.
- Sohna-Palwal Bypass: The existing Palwal-Sohna Bypass, originating from NH-919, will undergo upgrading, redesigning, and reconstruction as a four-lane road spanning roughly 24 km.
Broader Connectivity Initiatives
Beyond these specific bypasses, the Haryana government is also focused on developing greenfield connectivity. Plans are in motion to link the DND-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh Bypass-KMP link and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with the upcoming Jewar International Airport. Additionally, the state's land share for the Karnal Ring Road project has been deposited, signaling progress on that front.
Officials have been instructed to formulate a comprehensive policy for outer ring roads and national highways, aligning with the Centre’s policy framework. A three-member committee has also been established to determine Haryana’s contribution under a proposed cost-sharing arrangement with the Union government for these ambitious infrastructure projects.
