The Indian box office is witnessing an unusual pattern, with two major films, "Hanuman Ansh" and "Mirzapur: The Movie," maintaining an iron grip on ticket sales. This dominance has left recent new releases struggling to find an audience and secure screens, leading to a significant imbalance in the market.
"Hanuman Ansh" Box Office Triumph
The devotional drama "Hanuman Ansh" has achieved a miraculous run at the domestic box office. Despite opening with a modest ₹10 lakh on its first day, the film is now on the verge of crossing the ₹250 crore mark in India. As of its 43rd day, the film's net domestic collection stands at ₹248.38 crore, translating to an India gross of ₹293.30 crore. Globally, "Hanuman Ansh" has amassed an impressive ₹316.30 crore, bolstered by ₹23 crore from overseas markets.
"Mirzapur: The Movie" Maintains Momentum
Even with the formidable success of "Hanuman Ansh," the crime thriller "Mirzapur: The Movie" has successfully held its ground. Starring Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal, the film began its theatrical run with a strong opening day collection of ₹25.75 crore. It has since accumulated a net India box office total of ₹206.20 crore, with gross domestic collections reaching ₹245.64 crore. Including its ₹50.50 crore from overseas, the film's worldwide earnings have climbed to ₹296.14 crore.
New Releases Struggle for Footing
This week's new releases have faced considerable challenges in breaking through the dominance of the two established blockbusters. "Daayra," featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened with a disappointing ₹90 lakh at the domestic box office. This marks one of Kareena Kapoor Khan's lowest opening figures, following her 2024 film "The Buckingham Murders," which opened at ₹1.38 crore.
Similarly, "Vibe," a comedy starring Kunal Kemmu and Preity Zinta, also had a slow start. While it managed to slightly outperform "Daayra" with an opening day collection of ₹1.50 crore, both films have struggled significantly to capture audience attention amidst the ongoing box office frenzy surrounding "Hanuman Ansh" and "Mirzapur: The Movie."
