· · 2 min read

Grasim Industries is strategically expanding its portfolio with new growth engines like Birla Opus, Birla Pivot, and Aditya Birla Renewables. Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla announced the company aims for ₹2 lakh crore in consolidated revenue by FY27.

Grasim Industries is accelerating its strategic shift towards new growth engines, with Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla announcing the company is on track to achieve ₹2 lakh crore in consolidated revenue by the fiscal year 2027. Speaking at Grasim's 79th annual general meeting, Birla highlighted the diversified portfolio that combines established businesses with rapidly scaling new platforms.

Birla Opus Leads Paints Market Expansion

Among Grasim's newer ventures, Birla Opus has quickly established itself in India's competitive decorative paints market. Birla reported that the business doubled its revenue year-on-year in FY26, securing a 10% revenue market share on a standalone basis. Furthermore, Birla Opus now ranks as the second-largest player by capacity market share, with Grasim's combined revenue market share, including Birla White putty, reaching the early teens.

Birla Pivot Surpasses Revenue Targets

The B2B building materials platform, Birla Pivot, is another emerging growth engine for Grasim. The digital platform has already surpassed its annual revenue guidance of ₹8,500 crore, achieving this milestone a full year ahead of schedule. Birla emphasized that Pivot is creating a technology-led ecosystem connecting manufacturers, dealers, contractors, and institutional buyers, enhancing efficiency and transparency across the fragmented building materials value chain.

Financial Services and Renewables Drive Future Growth

Aditya Birla Capital is playing a pivotal role in Grasim's growth strategy amidst India's deepening financialization. In FY26, the financial services arm completed a ₹4,000 crore preferential issue, while Advent International invested ₹2,750 crore in Aditya Birla Housing Finance.

Renewable energy also presents a significant growth opportunity. Aditya Birla Renewables has expanded its platform visibility from 2 GW to approximately 10 GW, with an ambitious target to scale beyond 20 GW. The recent acquisition of Sprng Energy from Shell added about 5 GW of peak contracted renewable capacity, strengthening Grasim's presence in both commercial and industrial, and utility-scale projects.

Core Businesses Provide Foundation for Transformation

While new businesses are rapidly scaling, Grasim's established operations remain crucial to the portfolio, generating strong cash flows that fund the ongoing transformation. UltraTech Cement, for instance, surpassed 200 million tonnes per annum of grey cement capacity in April. Similarly, the Cellulosic Fibres business is investing nearly ₹4,000 crore to expand Lyocell capacity by almost five times.

Birla concluded by stating that Grasim's portfolio architecture deliberately integrates established businesses with new growth engines, ensuring sustainable value creation. He affirmed that the company will continue to strengthen its core, scale newer platforms, and deepen its presence in high-growth categories, with execution remaining the most important differentiator.
