Graphite India Shares Surge 18% to 52-Week High on GrafTech Price Hike

· · 2 min read

Shares of Graphite India Ltd. surged 18% to a 52-week high of Rs 865 after GrafTech International announced a significant 30% price hike for graphite electrodes. This move aims to restore sustainable pricing and support future manufacturing investments.

Shares of Graphite India Ltd. experienced a significant rally today, climbing over 18% to reach a fresh 52-week high of Rs 865. The surge was primarily driven by an announcement from GrafTech International, a major global producer of graphite electrodes, which declared an immediate minimum 30% price increase for all open commercial negotiations.

GrafTech International stated that this latest price adjustment, following a similar action in March 2026, is crucial for bringing graphite electrode prices back to sustainable levels. The company emphasized that the move is necessary to support ongoing investments in manufacturing capacity and ensure a reliable, consistent supply of graphite electrodes to its customers over the long term. This decision also follows GrafTech's recent announcement of a 51 kilotonne capacity reduction.

Market Performance and Company Profile

The positive sentiment generated by GrafTech's pricing strategy directly impacted Graphite India shares, which closed at Rs 734.45 previously. The company's market capitalization rose significantly, reaching approximately Rs 16,873 crore during the session. Graphite India has shown strong performance recently, gaining 66% over the past year and rising 33% since the beginning of this year.

Trading activity was robust, with 13.59 lakh shares of Graphite India changing hands on the BSE, amounting to a turnover of Rs 112.52 crore. The stock is currently trading above its 5-day, 10-day, 30-day, 50-day, 100-day, 150-day, and 200-day moving averages, indicating strong upward momentum.

Graphite India's Diverse Operations

Graphite India is a diversified company involved in the manufacturing of graphite electrodes, graphite equipment, steel, glass reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes and tanks, and the generation of hydel power. Its operations are segmented into Graphite and Carbon, Steel, and Other businesses.

Impact on Other Sector Players

While Graphite India saw a direct boost, shares of HEG Ltd. also rose by 5% to Rs 273.35. However, the impact on HEG's stock was not directly attributed to GrafTech's announcement today, given the company's recent demerger. HEG's graphite electrode business has been transferred to HEG Graphite Ltd., which is slated for renaming to HEG Ltd. and separate listing as a pure-play graphite electrode company. The original listed entity has been renamed HEG Advanced Materials Ltd., retaining advanced materials, battery energy solutions, and green power businesses, alongside the amalgamation of Bhilwara Energy Ltd.
