Godrej Industries Ltd. announced a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Haryana, outlining a future investment plan of approximately ₹20,000 crore in the state. This substantial commitment is projected to generate around 40,000 new jobs across various sectors.
The announcement, made on Monday, saw Godrej Industries shares initially rise, hitting a high of ₹1,250. However, the stock later reversed course in afternoon trading, settling at ₹1,179.20, marking a 4.12% decline for the day.
Driving Growth in Haryana
The proposed investments primarily focus on residential and commercial development, with Godrej Properties Ltd. and Godrej Ventures expected to be key drivers. Godrej Properties, a major real estate arm, plans to invest approximately ₹16,000 crore in Haryana by FY28, which would bring its total investment in the state to around ₹27,000 crore. The company currently manages 18 projects across Gurugram, Sonipat, Faridabad, Panipat, and Kurukshetra, with future developments anticipated to create over 11,000 jobs.
Godrej Ventures, the group's real estate private equity business, has already invested about ₹1,000 crore in Haryana and intends to deploy an additional ₹3,500 crore into Grade A+ office infrastructure, particularly in Gurugram. These ventures alone are expected to generate more than 30,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Broader Group Presence
The Godrej Group's footprint in Haryana extends beyond real estate. Godrej Capital, its financial services arm, operates five branches in the state and has facilitated approximately ₹550 crore in bookings through its financing business. Additionally, Godrej Consumer Products maintains a robust distribution network with 42 direct distributors and over 250 rural stockists across Haryana.
The group stated that the MoU underscores its expanding presence and strategic plans to build upon its existing footprint within the state, reflecting a long-term commitment to Haryana's economic development.
“The group has invested approximately ₹12,000 crore in Haryana to date and employs around 9,000 people across its businesses in the state,” a company statement highlighted, emphasizing the foundation upon which this new investment builds.
This significant investment aims to bolster Haryana's infrastructure and job market, despite the immediate mixed reaction from the stock market.
