Godrej Capital Expands Gold Loans, Targets Ambitious Wealth Management Growth

· · 2 min read

Godrej Capital is making a significant push into the gold loan sector after acquiring Kanakdurga Finance’s business, aiming for a ₹10,000 crore balance sheet. Concurrently, its wealth management division plans to expand physically to 35 cities and targets ₹1 lakh crore in assets under management by 2032.

Godrej Capital, the financial services arm of the Godrej Industries Group, is embarking on a significant expansion strategy, focusing on both the burgeoning gold loan market and an ambitious growth plan for its wealth management business.

Entering the Gold Loan Market

The company formally entered the gold loan business in July 2026, a move facilitated by the acquisition of Kanakdurga Finance’s gold loan operations through its subsidiary, Godrej Finance. This strategic entry positions Godrej Capital to cater to small businesses and consumers, leveraging gold as a key asset for financial growth.

Manish Shah, MD and CEO of Godrej Capital, highlighted the importance of this segment, noting that a substantial portion of gold loans are utilized for business expansion. The company has set an aggressive target of building a ₹10,000 crore balance sheet in the gold loan segment over the next five years, an upward revision from its initial ₹5,000 crore projection, reflecting strong confidence in market opportunity.

Ambitious Wealth Management Expansion

Parallel to its gold loan initiative, Godrej Capital is also rapidly expanding its wealth management division, Godrej Wealth. Launched in Mumbai in June and recently entering Delhi, Godrej Wealth aims for a physical presence in eight of India's largest cities by March 2027. This includes Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata.

The long-term vision is even more expansive, with plans to establish a physical footprint in at least 35 locations across the country over the next four years. Shah emphasized the critical role of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, in enhancing client conversations and service delivery for wealth professionals.

Godrej Wealth has set an ambitious target of achieving ₹3,000 crore in assets under management (AUM) by March 2027. Looking further ahead, the company aims to reach ₹1 lakh crore in AUM across its wealth and asset management businesses by 2032, with an entry into the asset management business anticipated next year.

Strategic Vision for Growth

Godrej Capital and Godrej Wealth operate under Godrej Investment Limited (GIVL), the dedicated financial services holding company of the Godrej Industries Group. This structure encompasses the group’s diverse financial offerings, including housing finance and NBFC lending.

While the immediate focus remains on gold loans and wealth management, Godrej Capital is also exploring future opportunities, including potential entry into the personal loan segment. However, the company does not intend to concentrate on small-ticket personal loans in the range of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh.
