Godavari Biorefineries shares soared 16.57% to Rs 280 after the European Patent Office granted a patent for its novel anti-cancer pharmaceutical composition. The invention enhances solubility and bioavailability for treating various cancers, including breast and prostate cancers.

Shares of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd experienced a significant rally on Tuesday, surging 16.57 percent to reach a high of Rs 280. This impressive stock performance followed the small-cap firm's announcement that the European Patent Office (EPO) had granted its application for a pharmaceutical composition featuring novel anti-cancer compounds.

The company confirmed the patent grant, dated July 15, 2026, in an exchange filing. The invention detailed in the patent relates to a pharmaceutical composition that combines new anti-cancer compounds with a solubilising agent. This composition is specifically designed to improve the solubility and bioavailability of the active compounds, thereby boosting their therapeutic potential.

Breakthrough in Cancer Treatment

Godavari Biorefineries highlighted the significant applications of this new composition in treating various cancers. Notably, it is expected to be effective against breast and prostate cancers, particularly when administered orally. The patent further extends to cover the use of this pharmaceutical composition for the treatment and management of a range of cancers, substantially strengthening the company's intellectual property portfolio in oncology.

Prior to this European patent approval, Godavari Biorefineries had also filed an application with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in India, indicating its ongoing efforts to advance its innovation pipeline in this critical area.

Q1 Financial Performance

Despite the positive news on the patent front, Godavari Biorefineries reported a widening of its losses for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Losses for Q1 FY27 increased to Rs 19.3 crore, up from Rs 16 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA) also saw a decline, falling to Rs 2.6 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 6.5 crore in Q1 FY26.

However, the company's total income showed growth, rising to Rs 559.9 crore in Q1 FY27 compared to Rs 534 crore recorded in the year-ago period.
