GIFT City, India's burgeoning international financial hub, is now home to a new investment avenue designed specifically for non-resident Indians (NRIs) and other eligible global investors. The Wealth Company has introduced The Wealth Company IFSC FoF, an open-ended, US-dollar denominated Category III Alternative Investment Fund (AIF), aiming to simplify access to India's expansive mutual fund market.
Streamlining India Investment for Overseas Capital
This innovative fund acts as a professionally managed structure, enabling investors to gain exposure to a broad spectrum of Indian mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) without the need to individually select schemes. Given India's mutual fund market now boasts over 50 asset management companies and more than 1,600 active schemes, this new Fund-of-Funds (FoF) approach addresses the complexity of selection for overseas investors.
Managed by Wealth Company Asset Management Private Limited (IFSC Branch), the fund's investment process considers various factors, including historical performance, risk metrics, quantitative parameters, and forward-looking market positioning. Its portfolio can encompass diversified equity funds, sectoral strategies, fixed-income funds, hybrid funds, gold and silver ETFs, index strategies, and SIFs, all within the fund’s mandate.
Who Can Invest and Key Benefits
The Wealth Company IFSC FoF is targeted at eligible global investors, including NRIs, global family offices, institutional investors, accredited investors, and High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs)/Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNIs). The fund is denominated in US dollars, making it an attractive structure for those managing wealth internationally.
Key benefits include:
- Professional Management: Investors outsource the selection and rebalancing of investments across a diverse fund market.
- Simplified Access: Eligible non-resident investors may not need to undertake the SEBI FPI registration process to access underlying Indian mutual funds.
- Potential Tax Advantages: Structured as an IFSC-based Category III AIF, it is expected to qualify as a “Specified Fund” under the Income-tax Act, 2025. This may offer potential Indian tax exemptions on specified income and distributions for eligible non-resident investors, though local tax obligations must also be considered.
However, the fund is not universally available. It does not accept resident Indians and currently excludes investors residing in the US and Canada, as well as those from FATF-restricted jurisdictions.
GIFT City: A Gateway to India's Growth
The launch underscores GIFT City's growing role as a financial bridge connecting international capital with Indian investment opportunities. India's mutual fund assets have seen significant growth, reaching ₹82.22 lakh crore as of June 30, 2026, a substantial increase from a decade prior. Monthly SIP contributions also highlight the robust domestic investment landscape.
This new offering by The Wealth Company aims to harness this expanding Indian investment potential, providing global Indian wealth with a structured and professionally managed route through an international financial platform.
