Gen Z Duo Turns Pickle TikToks into $8.5M Snack Brand 'Good Girl Snacks'

· · 2 min read

Leah Marcus and Yasaman Bakhtiar, two Gen Z friends, transformed their shared love for pickle TikToks into Good Girl Snacks. Their Los Angeles-based startup, known for 'Hot Girl Pickles,' secured $3 million in seed funding, reaching an $8.5 million valuation.

Two Gen Z friends, Leah Marcus (26) and Yasaman Bakhtiar (27), have successfully parlayed a shared interest in pickle-related TikTok videos into a burgeoning food startup, Good Girl Snacks. The Los Angeles-based company, founded by the University of Southern California alumni, is now valued at approximately $8.5 million, equivalent to around ₹81 crore.

Marcus and Bakhtiar, who both graduated in 2022, found common ground in 2023 by regularly exchanging viral pickle clips on TikTok. This online trend soon sparked a business idea, leading them to quit their respective jobs by summer 2023 to fully commit to building a consumer food brand.

Launching Hot Girl Pickles and Expanding Reach

In February 2024, the duo officially launched Good Girl Snacks with their inaugural product, 'Hot Girl Pickles.' Initially, they adopted a direct-to-consumer (D2C) model, selling through their website and actively gathering feedback from early customers to refine flavors and packaging. The initial capital for the venture was reportedly raised from friends and family, as detailed in a CNBC Make It report.

The brand significantly expanded its reach in 2025 by securing listings with major US retailers, including Whole Foods Market and the premium grocer Erewhon. This strategic move marked a shift from an exclusively online presence to widespread offline availability, substantially boosting the brand's visibility and distribution network.

Funding Success and Future Vision

Good Girl Snacks subsequently raised $3 million in a seed funding round, which propelled its valuation to $8.5 million. Social media continues to be a cornerstone of the company's marketing strategy, evidenced by its robust online community of approximately 180,000 followers on Instagram.

Looking ahead, Marcus and Bakhtiar have expressed plans to diversify their product line beyond pickles, intending to venture into additional snack categories. They aim to replicate their successful social-media-driven branding and community-focused approach to foster continued growth and market penetration in the competitive snack industry.
