Fuel prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) have been updated across major Indian cities on May 24. This marks further revisions following recent increases, particularly for CNG, which saw a ₹2 per kg hike in Delhi and Mumbai after an earlier ₹1 per kg rise in Delhi.
Global Tensions and Import Dependency
The ongoing conflict in West Asia continues to exert pressure on global energy supplies, directly impacting India, which imports over 40 percent of its crude oil and 90 percent of its LPG from countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Despite these geopolitical challenges, no dry-outs have been reported at distributorships, and LPG supplies remain under close monitoring.
The Indian government continues to offer subsidies under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which has provided gas connections to over 10 crore low-income families, helping to reduce the effective cost of LPG for eligible consumers.
