Fortis Healthcare, a leading hospital chain, is set to establish its first significant presence in Odisha through an asset-light partnership. The company has signed an operations and management (O&M) agreement with the Bhubaneswar-based Dion Group to operate a new 300-bed multi-speciality hospital in Cuttack.
Strategic Expansion in Eastern India
The upcoming facility will be located within the Dion Riverside Township in Trishulia, strategically positioned along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar corridor. It is designed to provide comprehensive tertiary and quaternary care services across various medical specialties.
Under the agreement, the Dion Group will be responsible for developing the hospital infrastructure, while Fortis Healthcare will manage all clinical and operational functions. This asset-light approach aligns with Fortis's broader strategy to expand its network through O&M agreements and brownfield expansions, allowing for growth without direct ownership of the underlying assets.
"The upcoming 300-bed multi-specialty hospital will play a significant role in improving access to advanced tertiary care services for patients across Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and neighbouring regions. This collaboration represents an important milestone in Fortis Healthcare's growth journey and reflects our continued commitment to expanding high-quality healthcare infrastructure across India," stated Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Healthcare.
Addressing Regional Healthcare Needs
The new Fortis Cuttack hospital is envisioned as a regional referral center, equipped with advanced diagnostics, critical care infrastructure, and specialized clinical programs. Its aim is to reduce the necessity for patients in Odisha to travel to other states for complex medical treatments, thereby strengthening access to advanced healthcare throughout eastern India.
Manoj Sahoo, Promoter of Dion Group, emphasized the synergy of the partnership:
"This collaboration brings together Fortis' proven clinical and operational expertise with our vision of creating modern healthcare infrastructure for the state. The project will help address the growing demand for advanced healthcare services and provide patients access to quality medical care closer to home."
Currently, Fortis Healthcare operates 36 healthcare facilities, including joint ventures and O&M hospitals, across 12 states and Union Territories. Its network comprises over 6,000 operational beds and 400 diagnostic laboratories. The Odisha project is expected to further solidify the company's footprint in eastern India as it continues its expansion through strategic partnerships and management contracts.
