EV Stock Boom Sidelines Maruti Suzuki: Expert Predicts Prolonged Consolidation

· · 3 min read

Market expert Ruchit Jain predicts Maruti Suzuki shares will remain in a prolonged consolidation phase. This comes as EV-themed auto stocks like Ather Energy and Ola Electric have seen significant gains, shifting investor sentiment.

Maruti Suzuki investors hoping for a decisive market breakout may need to temper their expectations, according to market expert Ruchit Jain. As of September 3, 2026, the country's largest carmaker appears poised for a prolonged consolidation phase, unlikely to deliver a meaningful directional move in the near term.

This assessment arrives amid a flourishing market for newer-age and electric vehicle (EV)-linked automotive plays. While established players like Maruti Suzuki navigate a steady course, EV majors are experiencing remarkable growth.

EV Stocks Surge as Traditional Auto Stalls

The contrast in market performance is stark. Shares of EV giant Ather Energy Ltd have surged an impressive 134% in the last six months alone, climbing 227% over the past year. Similarly, another prominent EV player, Ola Electric, has seen its shares jump 55% over a six-month period.

In stark opposition, Maruti Suzuki shares have traded in the red for the past year, registering a 24% fall in 2026 and a 15% decline over the last 12 months. This divergence highlights a significant shift in investor preference within the broader automotive sector.

Maruti Suzuki Trapped in a Narrow Band

Jain noted that Maruti Suzuki has largely been confined to a narrow trading band for the past 18 months. He anticipates this trend will continue, with key technical levels identified at Rs 12,000 as a crucial support and Rs 14,500 acting as a strong resistance zone. The weekly 200-day moving average further reinforces the Rs 12,000 support level.

For long-term investors holding Maruti Suzuki stock since 2020, this prolonged consolidation presents a significant reassessment of opportunity costs. Jain's view suggests that despite fundamental stability, the stock may simply remain a low-momentum holding.

Shifting Market Leadership Towards New Mobility

The expert's analysis points to a broader transformation in market preference. Investors are increasingly gravitating towards companies associated with emerging mobility themes, particularly electric vehicles. Many new-age, EV-related stocks have already delivered substantial returns, and Jain believes these companies will continue to outperform in the future.

This market rotation reflects capital moving towards businesses perceived to have stronger growth visibility, compelling narratives, and higher re-rating potential. In such an environment, even fundamentally stable large-cap names can underperform in terms of price appreciation.

Investor Considerations: Stability vs. Growth

For existing Maruti Suzuki shareholders, the message isn't necessarily bearish but pragmatic. Jain does not foresee a structural breakdown for the company. However, for those focused on trend-driven returns over the next two to four years, a reallocation of capital might be a prudent consideration.

“If for trending stocks you want to see even from next two to three years perspective or four years perspective, so you can make that switch from Maruti to some other name,” Jain advised.

Ultimately, investors face a familiar market dilemma: remain with the stability offered by established companies or rotate towards the higher growth potential presented by emerging sectors like electric vehicles.
