Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 continues its strong box office performance, significantly outperforming Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947. Both films premiered on August 14, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend, yet their theatrical trajectories have diverged sharply by their fifth day.
Awarapan 2's Strong Run Continues
According to Sacnilk's live figures, Awarapan 2 has achieved an India net collection of ₹91.17 crore as of Day 5, with its India gross reaching ₹109.22 crore. The film is still adding to its impressive tally. It opened robustly with ₹22 crore on Day 1, followed by a substantial ₹33.75 crore on Saturday and ₹26 crore on Sunday. Despite a weekday dip to ₹9.25 crore on Monday, the Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani-starrer is now on the verge of crossing the ₹100 crore net milestone in India, having already surpassed ₹100 crore globally during its opening weekend.
The sequel's success is attributed to the nostalgia surrounding its 2007 predecessor, Emraan Hashmi's return in his iconic role as Shivam, and strong audience engagement with its romantic-action genre.
Batwara 1947 Struggles for Momentum
In stark contrast, Batwara 1947 is struggling to maintain its initial Independence Day boost. Sacnilk's latest data indicates a cumulative India net collection of ₹28.52 crore for the Sunny Deol-starrer, with an India gross of ₹33.97 crore by Tuesday morning. The film opened with ₹5.75 crore on Friday and saw a significant jump to ₹13.50 crore on Independence Day. However, collections declined to ₹7.25 crore on Sunday and sharply fell to ₹2 crore on Monday, with Tuesday's occupancy recorded at approximately 7%.
A Clear Box Office Winner
The disparity between the two films is evident, with Awarapan 2 earning more than three times the India net collection of Batwara 1947 within the same holiday release window. The opening weekend alone established Awarapan 2 as the dominant film, grossing around ₹81.75 crore net in India compared to Batwara 1947's ₹26.50 crore. As Awarapan 2 approaches the ₹100 crore India net mark and Batwara 1947 remains below ₹30 crore, the box office clash has decisively favored Emraan Hashmi's film.
