· · 2 min read

Joyalukkas Jewellery in Dubai has unveiled 'Mayura Sahasra,' a pair of 22-carat gold jhumkas weighing over 16.5 kg. Crafted by 55 artisans over 5,840 hours, these record-breaking earrings are now certified as the world's heaviest and largest by Guinness World Records.

Dubai's reputation as the 'city of gold' has been further solidified with the unveiling of a magnificent pair of 22-carat gold jhumkas by Joyalukkas Jewellery. These colossal earrings, named 'Mayura Sahasra' (meaning 'A Thousand Peacocks'), tip the scales at an astonishing 16.514 kilograms and have officially earned two Guinness World Records: for being both the heaviest and the largest pair of gold earrings ever created.

The record-setting jhumkas were presented to the public on Saturday, October 24, at the Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas in the vibrant Dubai Gold District. The unveiling ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, marking a significant cultural and commercial event. Guinness World Records officials were on hand to verify both titles, confirming the unprecedented scale of this jewellery masterpiece.

Craftsmanship Behind the Golden Giants

The creation of the 'Mayura Sahasra' was a monumental undertaking, requiring the dedication and skill of 55 expert artisans. Over several months, these craftsmen collectively invested 5,840 hours to bring the traditional bell-shaped jhumka design to life on an extraordinary scale. Each individual earring measures an impressive 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter, making them true showpieces.

The design features a prominent peacock motif, a symbol deeply ingrained in South Asian bridal and festive jewellery traditions. Joyalukkas has stated that the 'Mayura Sahasra' will be preserved as a complete pair and will be on permanent display at their showroom, offering visitors a unique opportunity to marvel at one of the world's most extraordinary gold creations.

A Tribute to Dubai and Artisan Skill

Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman of the Joyalukkas Group, described the project as a heartfelt tribute to Dubai and the exceptional artisans whose talent made the concept a reality. He emphasized that the achievement reflects nearly four decades of the company's growth, mirroring the rapid development and ambition of Dubai itself. Securing two Guinness World Records with a single creation is a moment of immense pride for the entire Joyalukkas family, its teams across 13 countries, and its extensive customer base.

Beyond the sheer quantity of gold involved, the 'Mayura Sahasra' highlights the rich heritage and scale of traditional Indian jewellery-making. By transforming a familiar ornament into a museum-scale exhibit, Joyalukkas underscores its design ambition and the unparalleled skill of its artisan team, solidifying its position as a global leader in the jewellery retail network.
