Domestic LPG, CNG, PNG Prices Hold Steady on July 14 Amidst Oil Surge

· · 2 min read

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on July 14, despite a significant surge in crude oil prices due to renewed US-Iran hostilities near the Strait of Hormuz. Commercial LPG rates, however, saw a reduction.

Consumers in India saw stable prices for domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinders, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) on July 14. This stability comes despite a sharp increase in global crude oil prices, fueled by escalating tensions between the United States and Iran that threaten vital energy supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, commercial LPG cylinder prices have seen a slight reduction.

Geopolitical Tensions Drive Up Oil Prices

Renewed hostilities between the US and Iran have significantly impacted global energy markets. Reports indicate a cycle of military exchanges, with Iran expanding attacks on Gulf states following US strikes. The US military confirmed that hostilities had resumed despite prior peace agreements and ongoing talks. Iranian media reported explosions near Qeshm and Sirik, marking the first strikes against Iran in nearly a month. The US cited these strikes as a response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. This volatile situation has pushed crude oil prices higher, with Brent crude futures climbing 2% to $84.98 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude rising 2.1% to $79.79 a barrel. Brent crude had surged 9.6% in the previous session, marking its largest daily gain since May 2020.
