In a significant strategic move to integrate advanced computing, data, and artificial intelligence at the core of its global operations, The Walt Disney Company has announced the appointment of Karandeep Anand as its first Chief Technology Officer.
Anand, an Indian-origin tech executive, will assume the newly created role of Senior Executive Vice President and CTO on October 2. He will report directly to Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro. His mandate includes overseeing Disney’s enterprise technology, global infrastructure, and critical data and AI platforms, alongside product and engineering teams across the vast organization.
A Unified Vision for Technology
This appointment signals Disney's intent to unify its diverse technological ecosystem. This encompasses everything from its streaming platforms like Disney+ to theme park operations, digital media, and internal enterprise functions, all under a single, centralized leadership.
Josh D’Amaro emphasized the importance of this new role, stating, “Karandeep brings a rare mix of experience across infrastructure, consumer technology and AI, and will be a vital addition to Disney’s senior leadership team as we further our three priorities: great storytelling as our North Star, technology in service of creativity, and operating as One Disney.”

Who is Karandeep Anand?
Karandeep Anand brings over two decades of extensive experience spanning enterprise computing, digital advertising, fintech, and consumer AI.
- Education: He holds a BTech in Computer Science from the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH), and completed higher education in the United States, including a certification from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
- Microsoft: Anand spent 15 years at Microsoft, where he played a pivotal role in building and scaling the Azure cloud computing platform in senior product and engineering management capacities.
- Meta Platforms: Following his tenure at Microsoft, he joined Meta (then Facebook) and rose to Vice President of Ads & Business Products, leading business tools and messaging products across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook.
- Brex: He served as President and Chief Product Officer at fintech firm Brex, guiding its product vision and early AI integration initiatives.
- Character.AI: Prior to joining Disney, Anand was the CEO of Character.AI, an AI conversational and creative platform, where he scaled its consumer audience and expanded into multimodal generative AI.
His extensive background positions him to drive Disney’s technological evolution, integrating cutting-edge AI and data solutions across its entertainment and operational segments.
