The upcoming BRICS Summit, themed "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," necessitates stringent security and traffic management. Authorities have designated over 35 controlled roads and established 22 diversion points, primarily within the New Delhi District and its surrounding corridors. These measures are designed to ensure seamless movement for VIP convoys while minimizing public inconvenience.
Key Roads to Avoid
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid routes passing through the controlled areas. Prominent roads affected include Mathura Road, Janpath, Sardar Patel Marg, Shanti Path, Akbar Road, and APJ Abdul Kalam Road, among many others. Diversions and restrictions may be dynamically imposed based on VVIP movements.
Alternate Routes and Public Transport Guidance
For those traveling to railway stations, including New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin, multiple alternate routes (Route A, B, C) have been provided. Passengers should allocate extra travel time to account for potential diversions.
The Delhi Police highly recommend using Metro services for travel to airport terminals. While alternative road routes from various parts of Delhi (Gurugram, Dwarka, South Delhi, West Delhi, North/East Delhi) are specified, the Metro offers the most reliable option during the summit period.
Buses, Taxis, and Metro Services
- Metro Services: Will remain fully operational and unaffected at all stations.
- Bus Services: May experience diversions during VVIP movements.
- Taxis & TSRs: Prohibited from roadside parking except in designated areas; diversions may apply during VVIP movements.
Non-destined commercial traffic is also barred from entering Delhi during the summit dates.
Emergency Services and Parking
Emergency and medical vehicles will receive priority and obstruction-free passage across the city 24/7. Essential services and utilities will also maintain uninterrupted access in all zones.
Parking will only be permitted in authorized areas. Roadside parking within 200 meters of controlled roads is strictly prohibited. Commuters must follow directions from traffic personnel deployed throughout the affected zones.
