India is advancing plans for a high-speed rail corridor connecting Delhi to Patna, promising to drastically cut travel times between these major hubs. A key highlight of the project is the confirmed stop at the upcoming Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport), integrating air and rail travel seamlessly.
The Delhi-Varanasi-Siliguri Corridor
The ambitious high-speed rail network is envisioned as a multi-state corridor, beginning in Delhi and extending through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, ultimately reaching Siliguri. The initial phase, the Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail Corridor, will link Delhi with crucial cities including Noida, Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Raebareli, Prayagraj, and Varanasi.
Following this, the Varanasi-Siliguri High-Speed Rail Corridor, announced in Budget 2026-27, will extend the network. This segment will connect Varanasi with Patna and several other significant cities in Bihar, such as Buxar, Ara, Begusarai, and Katihar, before culminating in Siliguri.
Direct Connectivity to Noida International Airport
A major development for the region is the confirmation that the proposed Delhi-Patna high-speed rail service will indeed include a stop at Jewar, home to the Noida International Airport. This integration aims to create an airport experience akin to major international hubs, where rail and air transport are seamlessly linked.
Once operational, travelers arriving via the Delhi-Patna bullet train will have direct access to the airport, reducing reliance on taxi services and significantly cutting down travel time between Delhi and Noida Airport to approximately 21 minutes. Passengers will also be able to board directly from the airport to reach cities like Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
Transforming Commuting and Air Travel
The new corridor is set to simplify commuting for residents across the National Capital Region (NCR). People living in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad will gain quicker access to the airport and other major destinations like Lucknow, Varanasi, and Patna, bypassing congested highways and lengthy conventional train journeys.
For air travelers, the high-speed rail offers direct airport access without needing to travel to central Delhi. The Jewar station is planned as an interchange hub, connecting with metro services, Namo Bharat (RRTS), Indian Railways, and road transport, ensuring faster airport transfers and minimizing interchanges for passengers.
Significant Reduction in Travel Times
The bullet train project promises dramatic reductions in travel duration. The journey between Delhi and Patna, and vice versa, is expected to be completed in less than 5 hours. Similarly, the travel time between Delhi and Varanasi is projected to reduce to under 4 hours, making long-distance travel much more efficient and accessible.
