The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will close entry/exit at 57 stations from 9 pm on October 9 through October 10 due to a CJP protest. This demonstration seeks CEC Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over electoral roll revisions.

Delhi Metro Announces Widespread Station Closures Ahead of CJP Protest

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced significant disruptions to its services, with entry and exit gates at 57 stations set to close from 9 pm on Friday, October 9, until the situation normalizes on Saturday, October 10. The closures are in response to a planned protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Interchange facilities will remain operational at all affected stations, with the sole exception of the New Delhi metro station. The Delhi Police has also proposed reducing the frequency of metro trains arriving at the impacted stations to manage crowds and ensure public safety during the protest.

Reason for the Protest and CJP Demands

The CJP-led demonstration primarily aims to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. This call for resignation stems from a controversy surrounding the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which the CJP alleges involves irregularities.

Beyond the CEC's resignation, the CJP has put forth several other demands, including fundamental changes to the electoral process. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh confirmed his party's participation in the protest, emphasizing its goal to "protect democracy" and address concerns over alleged "vote theft." The protest also seeks to involve the Chief Justice of India in the CEC selection process and advocates for holding elections across the country using ballot papers.
