Delhi Govt Mandates WFH 2 Days, Cuts Fuel Quota & Bans Foreign Travel After PM's Appeal

· · 2 min read

The Delhi government announced a mandatory two-day work-from-home policy for its offices and advised private firms, alongside a 20% cut in official vehicle fuel quotas and a ban on foreign tours. This follows the Prime Minister's appeal to conserve fuel.

In a significant move aimed at fuel conservation, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has announced a series of measures impacting government officials and private sector employees. The directives come in response to the Prime Minister's appeal to save fuel.

New Directives for Delhi's Workforce

Chief Minister Gupta stated on Thursday, May 14, 2026, that all Delhi government offices would observe a two-day work-from-home (WFH) policy every week. Private companies and institutions within the capital will also be advised to implement a similar two-day WFH schedule.

Further strengthening the conservation efforts, the official petrol and diesel quota for government officers' vehicles will be slashed by 20 percent. Additionally, all ministers are mandated to use the metro on Mondays to reduce vehicular emissions and fuel consumption.

Travel Restrictions and Public Appeal

As part of the broader fuel-saving initiative, the Delhi government has also imposed a ban on foreign tours for its officials. This measure complements earlier advisories encouraging ministers, MLAs, and officials to minimize vehicle use, promote carpooling, and opt for public transport like the metro and buses whenever possible.

Chief Minister Gupta also urged Delhi residents to actively participate in the conservation drive by reducing their dependence on private vehicles. An advisory detailing these new guidelines is expected to be issued soon, with the Labour Department tasked with monitoring its implementation across the city.
