At least 16 people have died and six others sustained injuries following a massive explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Kattanarpatti village, near Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. The devastating blast, which occurred on Sunday, triggered a large fire and caused significant damage to the surrounding area.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Emergency teams, including fire and rescue personnel and local police, rushed to the site shortly after the explosion was reported. Multiple fire tenders were deployed to control the rapidly spreading flames, fueled by highly combustible materials stored at the factory. Officials have stated that the death toll is feared to rise as search operations continue through the debris to locate any trapped survivors.
The injured individuals were immediately transported to nearby government hospitals, with some reportedly in critical condition. District authorities are coordinating medical responses and considering transfers to higher medical facilities as needed.

Chief Minister Expresses Grief
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound grief over the loss of lives. In an official statement, he extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Chief Minister Stalin has directed ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to immediately visit the scene to expedite and closely monitor the ongoing rescue and relief operations. Compensation for the victims' families is expected to be announced soon.
