The Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2026 examination experienced significant disruptions at various centers on May 30, following a technical glitch that prevented the timely start of the computer-based test. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, attributed the delay to a technical issue reported by TCS, its technology partner.
Students at several locations, including Noida, reported cancellations and extensive delays, leading to widespread uncertainty and frustration. Many candidates took to social media platforms to voice their concerns regarding the sudden disruption.
NTA Confirms Resolution and Revised Schedule
In response to the technical difficulties, the NTA issued a statement confirming that the issue had been resolved. The agency assured candidates that the examination was being conducted with compensatory time to ensure no student was disadvantaged. "TCS has reported that a technical glitch at their end delayed the commencement of CUET UG 2026 at some centres on Saturday. The issue has since been resolved, and the exam is being conducted with full compensatory time so that no candidate is disadvantaged," the NTA posted on X (formerly Twitter).
For the afternoon session, the NTA announced revised timings. Candidates were instructed to report to their centers from 2:30 pm, with the examination commencing at 4 pm, an hour later than the originally scheduled 3 pm start.
Student Anxiety and Previous Delays
The latest disruption added to mounting anxiety among students already navigating a complex CUET schedule. Earlier, the NTA had postponed the May 28 CUET UG exam due to a change in the Bakrid holiday date. The affected papers were subsequently rescheduled for May 31, June 6, and June 7, requiring fresh admit cards for candidates.
The CUET UG is a crucial entrance examination for admission to undergraduate programs in central universities and other participating institutions across India. It is one of the nation's largest higher education entrance tests.
Political Reaction to Exam Disruptions
The repeated issues with major national examinations drew criticism from political figures. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commented on the CUET disruption, linking it to problems reported in other significant tests. "NEET, CBSE, SSC. And today CUET," he stated, alleging that students were suffering due to persistent failures in exam management.
