Census 2027: Self-Enumeration Portal Opens for Online Household Data Submission

· · 3 min read

India's Census 2027 Self-Enumeration (SE) portal is now open, allowing households to submit their details online in 15-20 minutes. Completing the process generates an 11-digit SE ID for enumerator visits, streamlining the national survey.

The Indian government has launched a dedicated Self-Enumeration (SE) portal for Census 2027, enabling residents to submit their household details online before field enumerators begin house-to-house visits. This digital initiative aims to streamline the data collection process, offering a convenient method for citizens to participate in the national census.

Online Registration Process Simplified

Households can complete the online self-enumeration process in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Upon successful submission, each household will receive a unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID), which they will need to share with the Census Enumerator during their physical visit for verification.

The SE portal will remain active for 15 days preceding the commencement of Houselisting Operations (HLO) in each respective State or Union Territory. Specific dates for each region will be prominently displayed on the portal.

Step-by-Step Guide to Self-Enumeration

  1. Access the Portal: Residents must first navigate to the official Census 2027 Self-Enumeration portal and select their specific State or Union Territory.
  2. Household Registration: After entering a captcha, register your household by providing the name of the Head of Household, a valid mobile number for any household member, and an optional email address. It's crucial to note that the Head of Household's name cannot be altered post-registration, and a mobile number can only be linked to one household.
  3. Language and OTP Verification: Choose your preferred language (which cannot be changed later) and then verify your registered mobile number using a one-time password (OTP). A stable mobile network is recommended for smooth OTP delivery.
  4. Mark Your Residence: Provide detailed address information, including district, village or town, locality, and a nearby landmark. While the PIN code is optional, users must then drag a marker on an interactive digital map to pinpoint the exact location of their residence. Using a laptop or desktop is advised for better map visibility.
  5. Complete the Questionnaire: Proceed to fill out the Houselisting and Housing Census questionnaire. This online form is identical to the one used by field enumerators. Users can utilize available notes, tooltips, and FAQs for guidance. Sections must be completed sequentially, though previous sections can be edited before final submission. Details like Building Number and Household Number will be recorded separately by the enumerator.
  6. Review and Submit: Before finalizing, review all entered information on the preview screen and make any necessary corrections. The portal also allows saving the form as a draft for completion at a later time, prior to the closing date. Once 'Final Submit' is clicked, the data is locked and can only be modified by an enumerator during field verification.
  7. Generate SE ID: Upon final submission, your unique 11-digit SE ID will be generated. Keep this ID ready to share with the Census Enumerator during their visit.

This digital approach is designed to enhance accuracy and efficiency for the upcoming Census 2027, empowering citizens to contribute to this vital national exercise from the comfort of their homes.
