Census 2027 Self-Enumeration Deadline Nears for 5 States, UT: May 15 Last Date

· · 3 min read

Residents in Delhi (MCD), Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand face a May 15 deadline for Census 2027 self-enumeration. The online portal allows households to submit their details conveniently, improving data accuracy and privacy.

The self-enumeration process for the upcoming Census 2027 is rapidly approaching its deadline for residents in five key states and one Union Territory. Individuals residing in Delhi (MCD), Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand must complete their household data submission through the official Census portal by May 15.

What is Self-Enumeration?

Self-enumeration offers a streamlined alternative to traditional house-to-house visits by census enumerators. It enables residents to directly input and submit their household information online via the secure Census portal (https://se.census.gov.in/). This digital method is available for a 15-day window prior to the commencement of physical Houselisting Operations (HLO) in a given region.

Benefits of Online Submission

Census authorities highlight several advantages of the self-enumeration system:

  • Convenience: Residents can complete the process at their own pace and preferred time.
  • Accuracy: Direct data entry by householders minimizes transcription errors.
  • Privacy: The online submission offers an enhanced sense of privacy compared to in-person interviews.
  • Efficiency: It significantly speeds up the overall census operation and reduces the workload for enumerators.

How to Self-Enumerate: A Step-by-Step Guide

The online process typically takes 15-20 minutes. Here’s a summary of the steps:

  1. Access and Log In: Visit the Census self-enumeration portal, select your State/UT, and enter the captcha. A desktop or laptop is recommended for better map visibility.
  2. Register Household Details: Provide the head of household's name (which cannot be changed later) and a unique mobile number for the household. An optional email can be added for receiving the Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID).
  3. Language Selection & OTP Verification: Choose your preferred language (cannot be changed) and verify your registered mobile number with an OTP.
  4. Address and Location: Enter district, village/town, locality, and nearby landmarks. PIN code is optional.
  5. Mark House Location: Drag a red marker on the digital map to precisely indicate your residence. This links your data to the correct Houselisting Block.
  6. Complete Questionnaire: Fill out the Housing Listing and Housing Census questionnaire online. The portal provides guidance notes and FAQs. Note that certain details like building and household numbers will still be verified by an enumerator.
  7. Review and Save: Review all entered details section-wise. You can save the form as a draft to complete later before the deadline.
  8. Final Submission & SE ID: After clicking "Final Submit," data is locked. An 11-digit unique SE ID (prefixed with "H") will be generated and sent via SMS and email. Save this ID.
  9. Enumerator Verification: During the enumerator's field visit, share your SE ID. If it matches their records, your self-enumerated data is confirmed. If not, the enumerator will collect the information again.
