· · 3 min read

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to declare Class 12 board results between May 11 and May 17, 2026. Students can access scores via official websites, DigiLocker, and UMANG, needing roll number and admit card ID. Grace marks may be awarded for specific shortfalls.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is gearing up to announce the Class 12 board examination results for 2026. With over 18 lakh students eagerly awaiting this significant academic milestone, officials indicate the results are likely to be declared between May 11 and May 17, 2026. Historically, results have often been released around May 12 or May 13.

How to Access Your CBSE Class 12 Results

Students should prepare their login credentials, which include their roll number, school number, admit card ID, and date of birth. Once declared, results will be accessible through multiple platforms to manage high traffic:

  • Official CBSE Websites: Check the dedicated results portals maintained by CBSE.
  • DigiLocker: Students can link their CBSE credentials to access digital marksheets under the “Issued Documents” section. This digital copy is valid for college admissions.
  • UMANG App: The government's unified mobile application also provides access to results.
  • SMS Services & IVRS: These traditional methods will also be available for result retrieval.

While the online marksheet is provisional, original documents will be distributed later through respective schools.

Understanding the Evaluation Process and Grace Marks

CBSE continues to utilize the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 evaluations. This digital approach involves teachers assessing scanned answer sheets on a dedicated platform, which has reportedly reduced evaluation time and improved consistency and accuracy in mark totalling. CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj has confirmed that the process is progressing smoothly, dismissing any reports of technical glitches or delays.

Passing Criteria and Grace Policy

To pass the Class 12 examinations, students must secure a minimum of 33 percent marks in each subject. For subjects with both theory and practical components, a separate 33 percent must be achieved in both sections.

CBSE has a provision to award grace marks in certain situations:

  • Students falling short of the passing marks by one or two points may receive grace marks.
  • Grace marks can also be awarded if a particular paper is deemed unusually difficult, lengthy, or contains questions outside the prescribed syllabus.

CBSE Grading System Explained

The board employs a relative grading system for Class 12 results:

  • A1: Awarded to the highest-performing students.
  • A2, B1, B2, C1, C2: Represent subsequent performance groups.
  • D1, D2: The lowest passing grades.
  • E: Indicates a student has not passed the subject.

Post-Result Procedures: Rechecking and Re-evaluation

Students who are not satisfied with their scores will have the option to apply for verification, rechecking, or re-evaluation once the results are announced. Detailed guidelines, timelines, and fee structures for these processes are expected to be released by CBSE shortly after the result declaration.

Alongside the individual results, CBSE may also release key performance data, including the overall pass percentage, gender-wise and region-wise statistics, stream-wise performance, and the number of students who scored above 90 and 95 percent. While an official merit list is not published by CBSE, some schools may choose to announce their own toppers.
