The Bombay High Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, a former talent manager for actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The court's directive mandates the CBI to register a First Information Report (FIR) based on a complaint filed by Salian's father, Satish Salian, who has consistently alleged foul play in his daughter's demise.
A division bench comprising Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale issued the order on Wednesday, instructing the Mumbai Police to transfer all pertinent case documents and physical evidence to the CBI. The court specified that a suitably experienced and senior CBI officer should lead the investigation, emphasizing that no individual would be treated as an accused without sufficient material gathered during the probe.
Background of Disha Salian's Death
Disha Salian was found dead on June 8, 2020, after reportedly falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. The Mumbai Police initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and concluded the case as a suicide following their inquiry.
However, her father, Satish Salian, filed a petition with the High Court last year, challenging the police's findings. He alleged that his daughter was a victim of gang rape and murder, further claiming a politically orchestrated cover-up designed to protect influential individuals. Salian's plea sought action against several people, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aaditya Thackeray, and accused the police of failing to register an FIR despite his repeated complaints. He also stated that crucial forensic and investigative documents were withheld from his family.
Next Steps in the Investigation
Following the High Court's order, the relevant Mumbai police station is now tasked with handing over all necessary case papers and physical articles to the designated CBI investigating officer. The CBI is expected to launch a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian's death. The court has indicated that it will monitor the progress of the probe through regular reports submitted by the investigative agency. Satish Salian retains the right to challenge the CBI's findings once their report is submitted.
