The Indian Union Cabinet has given its approval to a comprehensive financial package totaling ₹2,79,157 crore, targeting significant advancements across agriculture, renewable energy, and urban infrastructure. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decisions following the Cabinet meeting.
Comprehensive Economic Package
This substantial package is strategically divided into three key initiatives, each designed to address critical areas of national development and public welfare.
PM DHARA Initiative for Renewable Energy
The largest portion of the allocation, a staggering ₹1,86,405 crore, has been earmarked for PM DHARA (Developing Harmonized and Accelerated Renewable Energy Access). This program is specifically designed to bolster the development and accelerate access to renewable energy sources across the nation, aiming to expand clean energy infrastructure.
Rabi MSP Hike for Farmers
In a significant move to support the agricultural sector, the government approved the Rabi Price Policy for the 2027-28 marketing season. This decision entails an estimated payout of ₹90,962 crore to farmers, revising the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for six crucial Rabi crops. The crops covered include wheat, barley, gram, lentil (masoor), rapeseed-mustard, and safflower. The new MSPs are set based on projected production costs and aim to provide substantial margins over those costs, ensuring better returns for farmers ahead of the Rabi sowing cycle.
Delhi's Intelligent Traffic System
The Cabinet also cleared ₹1,790 crore for the implementation of an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) within the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This project aims to leverage advanced technology to enhance the monitoring and management of traffic flow, thereby improving urban transport efficiency and reducing congestion in the capital.
Collectively, these three decisions underscore the government's focus on bolstering farmer income through MSPs, fostering sustainable energy growth, and upgrading critical urban infrastructure with technology-driven solutions.
