· · 3 min read

BSNL launches its Independence Day offer, providing new mobile connections with a ₹1 SIM card until September 12. The state-run telecom also introduced a ₹2,399 plan with 412-day validity and a ₹1.12 lakh satellite phone for specialized use.

State-run telecom giant BSNL has unveiled a range of special offers as part of its Independence Day celebrations, including highly affordable SIM cards, a long-validity prepaid plan, and the launch of a new satellite phone.

₹1 SIM Card and Extended Validity Plan

For customers seeking a new mobile connection, BSNL is offering a SIM card for just ₹1. This special promotion is valid until September 12, allowing new subscribers to avail of the reduced cost. Alongside this, the company has introduced a prepaid plan priced at ₹2,399, which provides an extensive validity period of 412 days.

In a further incentive for new customers, those opting for a new Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connection will receive their first month of service rent-free. BSNL has also streamlined the process for landline installations, enabling customers to scan a barcode, submit personal details, and expect a landline phone to be installed within three hours of submission.

BSNL Launches ₹1.12 Lakh Satellite Phone

A significant highlight of BSNL's new offerings is the launch of a satellite phone, priced at an initial ₹1.12 lakh. Bookings for this advanced communication device commenced on August 15. The satellite phone is designed to facilitate calls and messages in areas where conventional mobile tower networks are unavailable, offering crucial connectivity in remote or challenging environments.

According to BSNL Chief General Manager Pankaj Upadhyay, the satellite phone can also connect to regular mobile networks using standard SIM cards. Upadhyay emphasized its potential utility for national security operations and institutions functioning in geographically isolated regions. Specific tariff plans for the satellite phone will be developed for each telecom circle.

Strict Verification for Satellite Phone Users

Due to the specialized nature of the device, the satellite phone will be issued only after customers complete mandatory formalities. The Department of Telecommunications, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will conduct a thorough police verification process. The phone will be provided only upon successful completion of this verification.

Prospective users will also be required to specify the purpose of using the phone, the intended duration of use, and the precise geographical area where it will be operated. Officials have confirmed that stock will be distributed to all relevant offices in the coming days.

Who Can Benefit from Satellite Phones?

Satellite phones are primarily utilized in locations lacking access to traditional mobile networks. Key user groups include:

  • The Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with other defense-related sectors.
  • Personnel involved in disaster management.
  • Individuals working or traveling in remote areas and forests.
  • Participants in adventure activities.
  • The shipping industry, for communication at sea.

These devices ensure vital communication links remain open, irrespective of terrestrial infrastructure limitations.
