The letter, reportedly penned by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, claims that Garg faced questioning by the federal probe agency around 2016 concerning alleged irregularities in the purchase of aircraft for Air India during the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Dubey's communication to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) reportedly calls for a thorough investigation into Garg's assets and his role in various financial decisions during his tenure in government.
Garg Responds to Allegations
Subhash Chandra Garg, who served as Finance Secretary and Economic Affairs Secretary, has publicly denied the allegations of wrongdoing. He stated that while he may have been "examined" by the ED as a witness in some cases, he was never "questioned" as an accused. Garg maintains that all his actions were in line with government policies and procedures.
This is not the first time Garg's name has surfaced in connection with ED investigations. He was previously examined by the agency in 2021 regarding alleged irregularities in the ICICI Bank-Videocon loan case. However, in that instance too, Garg clarified that his involvement was limited to providing information as a former official and not as a person under suspicion.
